The project

A public works project to build new ADA-accessible concrete walkways and the approaches leading to them, with truncated dome warning panels, a new concrete curb and clean asphalt tie-ins to the existing pavement. Every walkway, approach and transition had to fall within ADA slope tolerances.

What we did

  • Removed organic material from the existing walkway subgrade
  • Placed and compacted 6 inches of base rock
  • Formed and poured 4-inch concrete walkways and approaches, set to ADA slope tolerances
  • Poured 6-inch concrete at the parking stall
  • Formed and poured the concrete curb
  • Installed truncated dome detectable warning panels
  • Paved asphalt transitions from the new concrete to the existing asphalt

Result

Accessible walkways and approaches built to meet ADA slope tolerances, with detectable warnings in place and smooth transitions between the new concrete and the existing asphalt.
